Gem Diamond Products: Electroplated Tools

Electroplated or electrodeposited superabrasive tools involve a single layer of highly concentrated ultra-hard abrasive material such as diamond or CBN electrodeposited onto a metal substrate of the requisite form / profile using a hard and durable nickel layer. These tools are manufactured under closely controlled conditions to give faster and more economical stock removal, and superior finish without compromising on tool life.

These electroplated products are multi-purpose tools that can be manufactured using Diamond and CBN for a variety of applications for machining numerous materials requiring a range of surface finish . While the performance of electroplated tools has many advantages over conventional tooling, the superiority of Gem electroplated tools lie in their high cutting efficiency and longer tool life, made possible by their excellent grit protrusion and high diamond concentration.

These tools are available in a wide range of micron as well as mesh sizes as per specifications, and can be used on hardened and toughened steel as well as unhardened steels, carbides, and non-ferrous materials. These tools are also used for the machining of glass, ceramics and are most effective in shaping synthetic materials with or without reinforcements.

CBN / Diamond electroplated tools are available in three different grades of diamond powders depending upon their application of use:

Very hard diamonds with high wear resistance for longer life where maintenance of profile is important;

Medium hard diamonds for regular applications;

Friable diamonds for use on sintered Tungsten carbide and similar hard materials. High friability enables controlled diamond micro-fracturing, resulting in self sharpening and thus ensuring free cutting action.

These electroplated tools are available for applications in the stone, engineering, watch and precious stone lapidary industries. However there are still a host of applications where electroplated tools can be manufactured for use. The list is endless and the applications, infinite.
